Overview & Objectives
The Cal/OSHA Noise Exposure Awareness online training from Exceed Safety addresses worksite noise – common in many workplaces. Cal/OSHA sets legal limits on noise exposure in the California workplace, and many employers are required to develop, implement, and maintain a Hearing Conservation Program to assess, monitor and protect the hearing of exposed employees.
Exceed Safety’s Cal/OSHA Noise Exposure Awareness training is designed to help participants understand exposure to, assessment, control of, and protections required for adverse worksite noise, as well as how to minimize risk.
Exceed Safety’s Cal/OSHA Noise Exposure Awareness training helps participants understand the basics of noise hazard awareness, recognition, evaluation and controls. Specific course topics include the following:
- Information about sound, the function of the ear, and the effects of noise on hearing
- Explanations of how noise is measured and some of the risk factors for hearing loss
- Descriptions of actions employers and employees you can take to conserve hearing at work and at home
- Practical tips to put your learning into context
- Knowledge checks throughout to measure your understanding
- Links to additional Cal/OSHA and industry resources

Features & Benefits
Exceed Safety’s Cal/OSHA Noise Exposure Awareness interactive online training is an introductory-level course designed to be taken at the participant’s own pace. The course should take most students 60 to 90 minutes to complete. Upon successful completion of this course, individuals can expect to:
- Explain what sound is, what noise is, and terms commonly associated with sound and noise
- Describe how the ear works, the anatomy of the ear, and how we hear
- Explain the effects of noise including how hearing loss occurs, problems associated with hearing loss, and how ototoxic compounds contribute to hearing loss
- Describe the various instruments and methods used to measure noise and the decibel
- Describe how the Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), also known as Cal/OSHA, protects and improves the health and safety of working people in California
- Explain the elements and requirements of a Hearing Conservation Program
- Describe how the noise requirements of Cal/OSHA’s Occupational Noise regulation relate to other construction activities in California
- Explain what the Hierarchy of Control is and how this approach groups actions by their likely effectiveness in reducing or removing the noise hazard
In Person Training
Participants in this course can expect to be engaged with a dynamic, intentional, and highly experienced instructor. Our in-person class allows for questions to be answered immediately, open discussions, and hands-on learning. Some classes can be done via Zoom (just give us a call) and can be combined with virtual-blended learning. It is our goal to teach with a variety of strategies that allow everyone to be engaged in a fun and comfortable learning environment.
