Overview & Objectives

In California, it’s not uncommon for heatwaves to strike and bring in temperatures of over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Whether employers or employees work in construction, general industry, or beyond, being prepared to safely work during these extreme conditions is essential for protecting oneself on the job site.

That’s why we offer an online Cal Heat Illness Prevention for All Industry Workers course, which equips students with the necessary knowledge to recognize and combat the risks presented by heat illnesses. While completing this heat illness prevention training course, students can also earn continuing education units (CEUs) in the process.

NOTE: This course is based on the State of California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations for all industry workers employed in California. For those working outside California, please consult our course designed and based on Federal OSHA regulations.

This heat illness prevention training course is based on the most recent updates to Cal Heat Illness Prevention Standard, Section 3395 of the Title 8 California Code of Regulations It covers pertinent safety topics concerning exposure to heat illness on the job site, including:

  • The background of heat illness on job sites and relevant case studies
  • How to recognize the causes and symptoms of heat illness
  • Ways to prevent heat illness
  • The importance of water, rest, and access to shade
  • High heat procedures, including the buddy system and how to respond to a heat illness emergency
  • The definition of acclimatization
  • The role of CAL/OSHA

Features & Benefits

By taking Cal Heat Illness Prevention for All Industry Workers, course participants will better understand how to avoid heat-related illnesses during their job duties. The course also allows participants to earn 0.1 CEUs and one contact hour from an authorized IACET CEU provider. Once the course has successfully been completed, students will receive a certificate of completion that documents the total amount of CEUs and contact hours earned.
