Overview & Objectives
The NFPA 70E Electrical Safety for Supervisors is an advanced-level online safety course reflecting the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E standards. The course addresses electrical safety in the workplace as applicable under the NFPA 70E standard, emphasizing both supervisory and management responsibilities for ensuring safe work practices around electrical hazards.
Participants in the course will learn the importance of the NFPA 70E standard and how it is organized, the requirements for an electrical safety program, how to establish and verify an electrically safe work condition, energized electrical work, shock and arc flash risk assessments, and approach boundaries. Additionally, students will cover the requirements for equipment labelling, illumination, housekeeping, confined spaces, flammable materials, and more – all from a management perspective.
NOTICE: Basic training in electrical safety is assumed prior to taking this course.

2018 Edition: This version of the course covers the 2018 NFPA 70E standards. Several significant changes were made in the 2018 edition, including the following:
- Updates to procedures for creating risk assessments
- Increased emphasis on using a hierarchy of risk controls when evaluating and implementing controls
- Logical step-by-step guidelines in Article 120 for establishing an electrically safe workplace
- Modifications to the arc flash hazard identification table, making it available to both incident energy analysis and personal protective equipment (PPE) category methods for determining the likelihood of an arc flash
2021 Edition: This version of the course provides training pertaining to the 2021 edition of the NFPA 70E standards. Several significant changes were made in the 2021 edition of the NFPA 70, including the following:
- Revisions have been made which can be used to help estimate the likelihood of occurrence of an arc flash incident during initial energization of new equipment
- Energy thresholds for electrical equipment and systems in laboratories have been revised to accurately reflect the data in the Informational Note’s resource document.
- New article on the safety-related requirements for capacitors has been added.
- Article 110 was revised to incorporate the general requirements that were previously in other articles.
2021 w/ Voice Authentication: This course uses Voice Authentication, a requirement in certain states to meet online course proctoring requirements. These voice-authenticated courses represent a best practice to ensure the identity of the student by prompting users to verify their voice at random intervals throughout the course. Users must have access to a mobile phone or landline while taking the course to successfully meet this requirement.
Exceed Safety’s online NFPA 70E Electrical Safety for Supervisors course is designed to aid participants in the identification of and protection from electrical safety hazards leading to arc flash, as well as how to establish an electrically safe workplace as outlined in the NFPA 70E standard.
