Overview & Objectives

While some construction job sites encounter trenching and excavation on a regular basis, others may only engage in these activities occasionally. Whatever the case may be, construction employers and employees alike must be prepared with the proper knowledge of how to maintain safety throughout any project. In our online Trenching and Excavation for Construction course, students will receive intermediate-level training on trenching and excavation practices that enhance safety on the job site.

Our Trenching and Excavation for Construction safety course was designed to help members of the construction workforce understand how to safely work on trenching and excavation projects. The topics covered include:

Detailed definitions and requirements for protective systems, materials, installation, and removal
The history and ins and outs of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Excavation Standard, as well as designs that use this standard
Various standardized construction practices for identifying and correcting hazards
Specific techniques for working with equipment during an excavation
The soil classification system, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), and more
An overview of support systems, shield systems, and other protective systems

NOTE: We also recommend that students reference the OSHA Excavation Standard 1926.650, Subpart P, while taking this course.

Due to the nature of this course’s curriculum, Trenching and Excavation for Construction is not recommended for construction workers who do not oversee other employees or job site activities.

Participants will also be able to have most questions answered while attending the class. Some of our classes are available via Zoom (just call us for more information) and can be combined with virtual-blended learning.
