Overview & Objectives
For members of the general industry workforce who work in water treatment and sewage facilities, plastic manufacturing, and other settings, dangerous chlorine exposure can occur. This greenish-yellow, odorous gas can irritate workers’ noses, throats, and eyes and even cause lung damage. To prevent workplace illnesses or injuries from occurring, our Chlorine Awareness for General Industry course offers introductory chlorine awareness training for general industry professionals. By completing this brief, 20-minute online class, participants can better protect their health on the job.
The main objective of this course is to teach general industry personnel how to protect themselves and their colleagues against the dangers of chlorine exposure on the job site. To accomplish this, it provides an overview of the following relevant topics:
- Chlorine basics
- Chlorine properties
- Permissible exposure limits (PEL)
- Health effects
- Safe work practices as outlined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
- Situational analysis
- Personal protective equipment (PPE)
