Overview & Objectives

Road construction hazards pose unique risks to workers. Unsafe practices for mobile equipment and vehicle operation, lighting, or workplace behavior can easily result in serious injuries or even death. The Road Construction Common Hazards course from Exceed Safety helps ensure workers are prepared to recognize and avoid these hazards and keep operations compliant with OSHA CFR 1926 Safety and Health regulations, as well as all standards established by the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA’s) Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).

During the Road Construction Common Hazards Course, participants study a number of key concepts related to road construction safety, including:

  • Top four road hazards for construction work
  • Back-overs, run-overs, and other employee hazards
  • Night work safety and work area lighting
  • Driver and operator safety responsibilities
  • Safe use of mobile equipment
  • Personal protection equipment (PPE), back-up alarms, barricades, and other safety measures
  • Flagging safety

Upon completion of the course, you will be prepared to work safely around mobile equipment and adhere to workplace best practices for road construction sites.
