Overview & Objectives

The HAZWOPER 2023 Refresher (8-Hour) course from Exceed Safety is an advanced certificate/card-level training designed to provide essential knowledge and training as prescribed by the OSHA standard for hazardous waste operations and emergency response (HAZWOPER) in 29 CFR 1910.120.

Nearly all levels of employees engaged in clean-up operations are required to complete eight hours of refresher training annually. This specific training provides current content (2022-2023) and supports a review of basic occupational safety and health principles learned during their initial 24-hour or 40-hour HAZWOPER certification training.

NOTICE – THE FOLLOWING IS NEW FOR 2023:

  • Improving workplace ventilation during cold weather
  • Safety issues for warehouse operations
  • Resources for oil spill emergency response and recovery activities
  • Additional Hazards: While hazardous chemicals may be the prime focus of HAZWOPER and site remediation, workers also face a variety of additional hazards such as ladder safety, heat illness, identification of subcontractor inspection results, mental health and stress awareness, minimizing tick exposures, and response to hurricanes.

 

Exceed Safety’s HAZWOPER 2023 Refresher (8-Hour) course is designed to provide essential knowledge required and prescribed by OSHA’s standard for HAZWOPER. Specific course topics include the following:

  • Important and relevant HAZWOPER safety and health issues addressed by OSHA and other organizations for 2022-2023
  • Requirements of the OSHA HAZWOPER standard
  • Hazardous waste site characterization and control
  • Training requirements for workers, managers, supervisors, and teachers
  • Employer Health and Safety (EH&S) programs, including organizational structure, site safety plans, safety meetings and inspections
  • Medical surveillance programs
  • Engineering controls, safe work practices and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Site and high-risk employee monitoring
  • Site decontamination, illumination, and sanitation
  • New technology programs
  • Requirements of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976 (RCRA) for treatment, storage, and disposal (TS&D) facilities
  • Hazardous substance release emergencies
  • Emergency response plans for hazardous waste operations
  • Respirator basics including usage requirements and major types

Who Is This Course For?

Exceed Safety’s HAZWOPER 2023 Refresher (8-Hour) offers eight hours of comprehensive training and study guides, as well as additional materials to promote compliance with OSHA’s HAZWOPER Standard 1910.120(e)(8). Upon successful completion of this training, participants can expect to:

  • Understand the requirements of the OSHA HAZWOPER Standard
  • Minimize potential of citation or penalty by OSHA or state OSHA programs
  • Better understand hazard recognition, evalutation, and control strategies applicable to HAZWOPER and related operations
  • Explain the importance of Safety and Health programs, site safety plans, safety meetings, and more
  • Identify important and relevant HAZWOPER issues addressed by OSHA and other organizations

All course participants must complete the full course to receive 0.8 CEU credits. Participants must achieve a score of 70% at each knowledge checkpoint and fill out the course evaluation to receive his or her certificate of completion. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a course completion certificate showing the CEUs earned that may be printed at any time.
