MSHA 4-Hour New Miner General Training

Overview & Objectives

MSHA 4-Hour New Miner Training is Part 2 of Exceed Safety’s new miner training. This course further discusses emergency procedures and provides a thorough review of first aid methods, as well as self-rescue and respiratory devices. it also covers some of the common hazards found at a mine site, such as the risks associated with silica dust, as well as the dangers and controls of welding and cutting, confined spaces, hazardous energies, and moving machine parts.

NOTICE: Part 46 of Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) regulations requires that mine operators and/or independent contractors provide 24 hours of training within 90 days of an individual beginning work. The MSHA 4-Hour New Miner Training can be used towards this training requirement.

Please note, however, this training is applicable only to MSHA Title 30, Part 46 regulations for non-coal surface mining. This training does not satisfy Part 48 training requirements. If you are unsure whether you are required to have training in Part 46 or Part 48, please contact the mine(s) you plan to enter.

Exceed Safety’s MSHA 4-Hour New Miner Training is designed to further upon the knowledge gained in MSHA 4-Hour New Miner Site Entry Training which is Part 1 of the new miner training course. Participants will learn important principles for working at a surface mine in this 4-hour certificate-level online course. Specific course topics include the following:

The mine environment
General procedures for emergencies, including fire prevention and control
First aid methods
Self-rescue devices and respirators
Health and safety when working around silica dust, welding and cutting, hazardous energies, confined spaces, conveyers, and moving machine parts

Specific industry terms discussed throughout the duration of the course include the following:

Confined space
New miner

Who is this Course for?

The MSHA 4-Hour New Miner Training from Exceed Safety is intended for all those who work, or intend to work at a surface mine site, such as a mine for sand, gravel, or crushed stone. Individuals who will benefit from this course include the following:

Mine operator employees with no prior mining experience
Contractors with no prior mining experience
Experienced miners beginning work for a new employer or contractor who must supplement their training
