Chip has over thirty years combined in construction, safety management, crane and rigging operations, construction equipment rental and insurance and risk management. Chip has held senior/executive roles at several major construction companies, including: Buckner Companies, ASPE South, S&R Enterprises, Williams Equipment and Crane Rental Rigging Company, and Barnett Steel Erection. Chip was named 2004 Steel Erectors Association of America Man of the Year in 2004 for work done on the OSHA Subpart R Steel Erection Training program.

Chip’s area of expertise and passion is in cranes and steel erection. He was instrumental in the development of Iron Worker training programs and CCO preparatory training for crane operators beginning at the inception of the NCCCO program. He is a certified crane operator through the National Commission for Certification of Crane Operators (CCO) in all 4 mobile crane specialties since 1997.

His credentials and experience include OSHA 500 designation, and the development of 6 different video safety-training programs for Ironworkers in both English and Spanish for the Steel Erectors Association of America (SEAA), the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). He is a Certified Craft Worker Trainer Instructor and has thousands of safety and management hours on Crane and Rigging safety, Steel Erection and Ironworker Safety, Rough Terrain Forklift operator training, aerial boom and scissor lift operator training and General Safety Management Principles

His leadership in the world of cranes and steel erection is vast. He has served in a variety of positions including service on the Board of Directors of SEAA beginning in 1995. He is a former member of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) National Safety and Health Committee, as well as the Carolinas AGC Safety and Health Committee, where he chaired the Crane and Rigging committee. As a member of the ANSI A10 Subcommittee on Crane Operator Qualifications Chip represented SEAA on the Federal OSHA Crane and Derrick Advisory Committee (CDAC) rewriting their OSHA standards. He also served as an alternate on OSHA Subpart N Crane Standards Advisory Committee (ACCSH) and the U.S. Department of Labor, OSHA, Crane and Derrick Advisory Committee (CDAC) Negotiated Rulemaking Committee in order to develop new Federal standards for Crane and Derrick use in Construction.
